Description:

This unit on Viral Hepatitis is an updated, high quality, robust teaching module on the major causes of hepatitis caused by hepatotropic viruses. Topics include the epidemiology, virology, risk factors for acquisition of disease, diagnosis, natural history, indications for vaccination, and treatment modalities. The interplay between viral factors and the host response is explained elegantly in the immunology section. A substantial number of images are devoted to extra-hepatic disorders associated with chronic hepatitis C virus infection.

The teaching is embellished by the incorporation of case studies and a wide-ranging spectrum of histological features, and radiological images that complement the text slides as well as by the use of data expressed in the form of bar graphs and pie charts. The legends provide important factual information that assist the speaker in making key teaching points. Updated references are incorporated in the legends.

The development of this unit is a tribute to the truly collaborative and collegial effort amongst the contributors. We have all learned much from each other and trust that you will find this teaching unit to be highly informative and useful.
