Description:

This teaching unit represents a completely new set of over 400 images that illustrate the consequences of advanced liver disease, with a focus on the causes, diagnosis and management of cirrhosis and its most common complication, portal hypertension. The outstanding photographs, micrographs, illustrations and movies explain important concepts in our understanding of the underlying pathophysiology of cirrhosis and portal hypertension. Management algorithms for common complications will aid the clinician in patient management. Moreover, the underlying pathophysiology is used to provide a scientific basis for treatment strategies. Images, including graphic representations of data from key studies, are accompanied by explanatory legends that contain recent literature citations, thereby providing a unique teaching and self-educational resource. The senior author, Guadelupe Garcia-Tsao, MD, is Professor of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine and the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, New Haven, CT.
