Description:

This teaching unit represents an up-date of an extremely popular set of images first released in 1997 (Part I) accompanied by a completely new set of images (Part II) that provide updated information on the classification, pathophysiology (motility, sensation, brain-gut interaction), diagnosis and management of the Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The outstanding illustrations explain important concepts in our understanding of how gastrointestinal dysfunction results in the clinical findings and symptoms associated with IBS and serve to add a scientific basis to the treatment of this important and very common condition. Images, including graphic representations of data from key studies, are accompanied by explanatory legends that contain recent literature citations, thereby providing a unique teaching and self-educational resource. The senior author for Parts I and II, Douglas Drossman MD, is Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry, University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, NC.

New - Updates Available
The authors of the Irritable Bowel Syndrome unit reviewed publications in the field since the release of the original unit in May 2003. Following this review, to keep the unit up-to-date, they prepared eight totally new images that review major advances in the understanding and treatment of IBS. In addition, several introductory slides to the unit were prepared that can be used for presentation purposes. These slides are only available via the download and are not included on the IBS CD-ROM.
